In 1941, press officer of the main Chilean newspapers were invited by the Japanese Government to an official visit for three months to Japan, China and Manchuria. Japan pretended to sought closer ties with Chile in a moment that potencies seek potential allies. Mario Planet, from ¨La Hora¨ newspaper, Carlos Barry from ¨El Chileno¨, Rodrigo Aburto, from ¨El Diario Ilustrado¨, Agusto Iglesias from ¨La Opinion¨, Jorge Vial Jones from ¨La Nación¨ and Gustavo Labarca from ¨El Imparcial¨ embarked in August 1941 at Rakuyo Maru steam bound to Tokyo. Once there they were paraded and feted, visited media, touristic places, school and factories. But, when they were on their way back to Chile, Pearl Harbor attack happened. United States entered into Second World War and the ship had to come back to Tokyo.

The Journalists had to stay for a year in Japan, in a kind of exile, in the middle of Second World War, completely ignoring Japanese language and culture. During that period, they became war correspondents of their respectively Chilean newspapers. Finally, six journalists were evacuated in a prisoners exchange ship that went around the world repatriating people from all the continents.

The search for affective memory of the producer is the main engine of the story of this movie, since his father, death at a very short age, was one of the journalists that lived this story. The most significant memory that was left of him, were photographs, watercolors, books, clippings and Japanese objects that accompanied the childhood of the director.
