Andrei A. Popescu is a filmmaker based in Bucharest, Romania. He graduated film directing in 2004 at the National University of Theater and Film I.L.Cargiale, Bucharest and after a series of screenwriting collaborations he went to study, in 2008, Directing Intensive and Developing and Selling Your Screenplay at the University of Southern California, School of Cinema-Tv Los Angeles, U.S.A. In 2013 he was selected as a screenwriter to take part in the Sarajevo Talent Campus during the International Sarajevo Film Festival 2013.
He directed his first short film on 35mm, "Matinee" , a drama layered with a strong magical moment, and won the SIGNIS award at CinaMAiubit Int. Short Film Festival in 2002. The second one, his graduating film, also on 35mm, "The Other Side/Beyond", a fantastic story based on local legends, was selected at numerous film festivals around the world, among them Boston Film Festival, 2004, Venice Circuito Off Short Film Festival, Italy, 2005, Clermont-Ferrand Short-Film Market, France, 2006 and Transylvania International Film Festival, Cluj-Napoca, 2006.
His filmography also includes "Transference" , a mystery thriller, shot on digital in 2008, on location in Los Angeles, winner of the Silver Ace Award Winner at Las Vegas International Film Festival 2009; "A Taste of Strawberries", a drama inspired by local headlines about mothers working abroad and their children left behind at home, in 2010 and his most recent short film, a thriller with fantastic elements, "Autograph" which was written, directed and produced in 2019.
