The Cinema Pendent Development Lab, part of L’Alternativa PRO 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, is a call dedicated to feature film projects in the writing or development stage. It is aimed at directors, screenwriters, and producers working on fiction, hybrid, or experimental films, with a focus on strengthening the narrative, conceptual, and artistic foundations of projects at an early stage.

The call is open to international applicants and will select four projects to participate in an intensive development program with professional guidance and mentorship. Selected projects will also receive a €500 grant to support their in-person participation.

Applications are open until June 25, 2026. The laboratory will take place in person in Barcelona from November 12–22, 2026, as part of the professional activities of the L’Alternativa Independent Film Festival. The program is specifically designed for feature-length projects seeking creative development and support for innovative, author-driven cinematic proposals.

Mentoring Acció>Cinema is a project development and mentoring program within L’Alternativa PRO 2026, taking place in Barcelona, Spain, from November 12 to 22, 2026. The initiative provides professional mentoring, project consultancy, and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening socially engaged audiovisual projects.

The call is open to both national and international applicants and will select four projects. Eligible applicants include directors, screenwriters, producers, and professionals working in the field of international cooperation. Projects may be submitted at various stages, including development, writing, pre-production, production, editing, and post-production.

The program accepts short films and feature films in fiction, documentary/non-fiction, animation, experimental, and hybrid formats. Projects should address issues related to social justice, human rights, international cooperation, or inequalities between the Global North and South.

The call opened on May 12, 2026, and the final submission deadline is June 18, 2026.

Franzi Shorts is an international short film script competition. The winning script will be fully produced in Copenhagen by Franzi Films, in collaboration with Simple Rent. Writers worldwide can submit a 5–30-minute script or a story treatment. All genres are welcome.

Ten finalists will receive personalized feedback in a creative call. One winner will move into full production, with development support, travel to the shoot or premiere, and festival submissions included.

Participants agree to grant production and distribution rights if selected. Deadline to apply: September 15. Winner announced: September 30, 2025.

MEDIMED Doc Market 2026 is an international documentary market held in Sitges, Spain, from October 9 to October 12, 2026. The call is open to documentary projects in development, production, or post-production, as well as completed documentaries and series. It is aimed at producers and directors with internationally oriented documentary projects.

The submission deadline is June 30, 2026. The event focuses on pitching, co-production, financing, and distribution opportunities through public pitching sessions, one-to-one meetings, and industry networking with international decision-makers.

It is an international call, open to projects from Europe and the Euro-Mediterranean region, including Southern Mediterranean and MENA countries, provided they have strong international co-production and distribution potential. The market is dedicated exclusively to the documentary genre, including feature-length films and documentary series.

The ABYCINE LANZA – AMNISTÍA INTERNACIONAL 2025 call supports the production of a short film focused on human rights. It is open to production companies, professionals, and amateurs, with at least one co-producer legally established in Spain. The short film must be in development or pre-production stage, up to 30 minutes long, and in any genre or format.

Projects should address themes such as freedom of expression, women’s rights, migration, climate justice, or armed conflict. The award includes €5,000 in production support and up to €2,000 for promotional activities.

Selected projects will be showcased at Abycine Lanza 2025, and the winning short will premiere in Abycine Cortos 2026, a Goya-qualifying section. Applications are open until June 30, 2025.
